What We Offer

Words of Wisdom Bookstore carries a wide variety of books of many different genres. We have the best sellers in fiction and nonfiction, local authors, first time novelist, the most recent biographies, cookbooks, history, professional development books for teachers, curriculum, religious studies, commentaries, Bibles, religious music, DVDs, greeting cards and a huge area for children. And if you can't find it on our shelves, we will try to find it for you. We can special order curriculum materials for home schoolers, and find that hard to find book. Just give us an opportunity and we will show you what more than two decades in publishing can accomplish.

After Hours Events


November 9 C J Redwine author of The Wish Granter will be with us to talk about her book and to personalize copies of her novel.


November 13 Layton Green will be in the store from 11-1 to sign copies of his new book Written in Blood


November 21 will be an evening to remember the death of President John F. Kennedy as owners Keith and Rebekka Pruitt talk about the writing of their book Lee Harvey Oswald on Trial: A Novel. We will be talking about the recent release. You'll hear from Lee Harvey Oswald (yes, you will) and we will show some of the exhibits from the new release that will amaze you.


November 24, 25- Indies Sell-  Join us for our after Thanksgiving sales as Indie Authors join us in the bookstore to sell books! You don't want to miss this.


November 28- The Old Hickory Book Club will meet at the Bookstore at 6:30. This is a private event.


Local talented author Angela Hoke will be here on December 5th to speak about her remarkable best selling and award winning books Whisper of Smoke and A Painted Life. Her writing style will captivate you as she reads from her novels.


December 7th will be Sisters in Crime night at Words of Wisdom Bookstore. Several noted authors will be appearing to talk about writing gripping crime novels. See our Facebook announcement for a list of those who will make up the panel.


A Chicken Soup Kind of Sunday will happen on December 10th at 1:00. Local authors from the Chicken Soup series will be in house to autograph books.


Nationally renowned author Tamera Alexander will be with us in March.


Also coming very soon will be writing classes taught by local authors.

With any new business there will be questions. Here are a few we have heard over the last couple of weeks.


1. Do you buy books from customers? 

We do not buy books from customers as a general practice. Unless you have something that would really catch our attention, like a rare fine, it just isn't our cup of tea.


2. Do you have new and used or just used?

Great question. We have two shelves dedicated to used books. 98% of the books in our store are NEW. 


3. Are your prices comparable to discount booksellers?

We are an independent bookstore. We are not part of a chain, but we wanted to bring a great experience to the local marketplace. We have our bestsellers table at 10% off list every day. From time to time we will have flash sales. And on special days, we will have other discounts. But we are not a wholesaler or a discount bookstore. 


4. Who are the owners?

The owners are Keith and Rebekka Pruitt, residents of Old Hickory who have roots in the Nashville area dating back before the Civil War. Rebekka, Keith's daughter, is the manager of the store, and on most days you will find us in the store.
